Taita Taveta Governor hopeful Jacinta Mwatela has vowed to floor incumbent John Mruttu and other rivals in the forthcoming August 8 polls.

Mwatela, a former Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) deputy governor, says she has the numbers to win the Taita Taveta top seat.

In an interview with Daily Nation, Mwatela warned rivals against underestimating her bid.

The former CBK deputy governor  said that she is a performer and given chance she will transform Taita Taveta in terms of development.

Mwatela said that her agenda if elected will be to transform the county’s economy.

She said that the county’s economy has deteriorated under Governor Mrutttu’s watch. ‘’I will implement policies and strategies that will boost the county’s economy and establish it as an industrial hub,’’ she said as quoted by the Standard.

Mwatela also pledged to create jobs, boost healthcare, education and women empowerment. The former CBK deputy governor also pledged to give land to squatters who she said have suffered for many years.

Mwatela further promised to prudently utilize county founds and guard against corruption and looting.

Mwatela  is contesting on Amani National Congress (ANC) Party.

Others in the gubernatorial race are radio personality Granton Samboja vying on Wiper Party ticket, Thomas Mwadeghu contesting on ODM ticket and Dan Mwazo vying on Jubilee Party ticket.

Mruttu is seeking re-election as an independent candidate.
