Cord leader Raila Odinga’s wife Ida Odinga has confessed that she did not want to marry a politician.

Speaking at the funeral of Professor Rok Ajulu, Ida said that marrying a politician was the last thing she thought about in her life.

According to Ida, the late Ajulu made her to develop a negative attitude towards lawyers, political scientists and politicians while she was still schooling at the University of Nairobi.

Little did she know she would end up with one as a husband.

“I was undertaking a Bachelors of Education degree that runs for four years but when Ajulu and his friend James Orengo led a radical movement at the university, I was forced to take another year,” said Ms Odinga as quoted by the Star.

She told mourners that she only realised that Ajulu was a relative to the former prime minister during her wedding.

“I was shocked when I saw the man I thought I would never meet after university accompanied by my sister-in-law. It was there that I understood that Ajulu was our relative,” she noted.

Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga, who was also in attendance, eulogized Ajulu as a hero who strongly fought for the liberation of the nation.
