Former Starehe Member of Parliament Margaret Wanjiru has rubbished claims in the media that she was forging a political alliance with Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa over the Nairobi gubernatorial seat.
Speaking at the Mayfair Hotel in Nairobi during the Africa’s Most Influential Women in Business and Government conference, Wanjiru dismissed the claims and intimated she was still in the gubernatorial race.
“We visited many parts of Nairobi with Wamalwa and the other leaders and that does not mean that someone has agreed to be another person’s deputy,” she said.
“Nairobi is larger than any tribe and no one should play tribal politics. We must unite all the tribes, work together then allow the electorates to decide who is to be the governor," she added.
This comes after earlier reports indicated that the bishop hosted Wamalwa, Gatundu South legislator Moses Kuria and her son Stephen Kariuki (Mathare legislator) at her church in Nairobi on Sunday in an effort to beat a political plan.
Local media had then gone ahead to say that she had entered an agreement to be Wamalwa’s running-mate in the said docket during the 2017 elections.
