Kiambu county governor William Kabogo has pledged to offer equal opportunities to Kiambu traders, saying that they were entitled to trade anywhere without being discriminated against.
This comes after the governor met Thika town small business traders who had come to denounce the memorandum presented to the Thika Sub County administrator for being discriminatory with the equal opportunity to trade.
The memorandum according to the traders allegedly contained requests by a section of business people and politicians who were planning to edge out the small business traders out of Thika town.
The governor who was speaking at Thika town on Monday when he held a meeting with Thika traders said that the purpose of the county government was to ensure that every citizen was accorded an equal chance to trade in the county.
He said that he would not to revoke or border them from their place of trade out of malicious intention.
“As the governor of Kiambu county, I will not be part of this heinous request by malicious and ill-intentioned politicians and a section of business people. I pledge to ensure that every one is accorded an equal chance to trade anywhere in the county without discrimination,” said Kabogo.
He said that his government was keener in improving the Kiambu county business facilities to enable a business environment that would stabilize the economy of the county.
The county boss added that he would continue to engage other traders in viewing and addressing emerging issues constructively rather than by taking to the street.
“We shall continue progressively continue to improve the facilities we have to create an enabling business environment and as well continue engaging other traders in view of addressing all emerging issues constructively,” noted Kabogo.
He further urged Kiambu residents not to be influenced by leaders who bore ill-intention towards the development of the county. He asked them to instead approach him since his government operated on an open door policy.
