Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho  narrated his hard school life when he was young, saying he wants to inspire other Kenyans.

He revealed that he paid his own school fees due to his poor family background, and appreciated what he got in exams.

According to him, his life was so different from President Uhuru Kenyatta's since Uhuru grew up as a privileged child, with his family catering for his needs.

"There are very few people in this world, who would work while still young, to pay their school fees. I am very proud of who I am today, and I want to inspire other Kenyans. Whatever poor grade you get in school, that is not the end of you. You can make it big, out of it,'' Joho said, Tuesday.

This followed claims by the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec), that Joho did not seat for the exams, but forged his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate to vie for the county's governorship, in 2013.

He said he saw the tribulations coming, and was very much prepared for it.

"I saw this coming. And I know many more is coming and I am prepared for it. With God's help, I will overcome this,'' he added.
