The outspoken MP also confessed to have been battering his wife more than 14 years ago, which he regrets and opted to champion for the rights of women.

“I want to condemn with the strongest words possible, any violence against women. Recently, a number of women have been injured in domestic quarrels by their own husbands breaking the fabric of the society. Even amid disagreements, couples should discuss all matters and refrain from any forms of violence towards each other,” Gikaria said on Monday at Afraha stadium in Nakuru.

The audience cheered as the legislator continued to narrate how he reached a decision to end violence against his own wife after a long period of violence leading to serious injuries inflicted on his wife.

“I used to seriously beat my very beautiful wife without having a second thought. At one time, I beat her seriously to a point that I broke her hand. In another instance, when she was pregnant with our first child, I beat her again leading to miscarriage. Since then, I made up my minds to stop any form of violence and I started championing for their rights. I have never even pointed a finger at her for the past fourteen years,” the MP said.

"It is our responsibility as men to advocate for women rights starting with ending all forms of domestic violence especially towards women," he said.
