Former Betting and licensing board director Simon Chelugui says he wants to replace the ‘absentee’ Senator Gideon Moi.
In what is termed as a well calculated move by the Deputy President William Ruto, Chelugui changed from vying for the gubernatorial seat to that of the Senator.
Chelugoi however denied the claims saying he chose to run for the Senate position to play an oversight role together with active elected MCA’s.
“I have chosen to run for Senate so as to play an oversight role together with active elected MCA’s,” Said Chelugui.
He added that he wants to fill in the gap left by Gideon Moi, an absentee Senator.
“I am coming to fill the gap left by Hon Gideon Moi, an absentee Senator,“ he said.
The move has angered locals of Baringo accusing the Deputy President of meddling in local politics.
“Chelugui was the best match for Governor Benjamin Cheboi whom we don’t trust any more. Now we have nobody else who can challenge him. The deputy president should stop meddling in Baringo politics and stop imposing leaders on us,” said Isaac Chemase, a resident of Baringo, Kapropita ward.
Chelugui was speaking in Mogitio Baringo county.
