When Rebecca Gathogo also know as Mama Njuguna woke up on Sunday morning she knew she was expecting an extra ordinary visitor; the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya.
What the DP was coming to do in Mama Njuguna’s home was not that important to her as the visitor himself.
Mrs. Gathogo was one of the lucky beneficiaries of the last mile connectivity project which the DP launched in Bahati constituency on Sunday.
Speaking to this writer on phone, Mama Njuguna said that she was moved by the DP’s humble and down to earth nature which went beyond what she expected.
She says she was left without words when the second powerful man on the land of Kenya agreed to take a cup of porridge and mutungo (boiled maize) which she had prepared that morning.
“Ruto is a very humble man and I couldn’t imagine him taking porridge and mutungo in my house. I was amazed by his humble nature and I pray that God lifts him from glory to glory,” said Gathogo.
“He had no problem sitting in my house and sharing our meal and that just made us feel honored so much,” she said.
When asked about what the DP gave her, Mama Njuguna’s response was a bit reserved.
“He is a gentleman and he can just come to your house and go, all I can say is that he is a very nice person and he treated me well during his visit,” she said.
