HIV is a monster virus, despite the fact that its victims can live longer under special lifestyle, people still fear the virus like an angel of death.
The good news is the existence of Post-exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) pills which can reduce the risk of attack by the HIV virus.
Godfrey, a first year student at Maseno University narrates how he was denied medication despite it being an emergency.
“It happened in October 2017. Someone told my aunt that my girlfriend back then was widely known to be HIV positive. She warned me to stay away. I had already slept with the girl about 48 hours back,” Godfrey told a Hivisasa writer.
He rushed to a local hospital where he pleaded with the chemist to give him PEP pills on credit but he was turned down.
“It was difficult to convince anyone to loan me the cash. I had less than 11 hours to save my life. Finding Sh3,500 remained a nightmare, I had to accept. I accepted to die. My life was sorrowful thereafter,” he noted.
His pain and agony, however, came to an end a month later when he tested negative.
