Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has denied claims that he was slapped by Emurua Dikirr legislator Johanna Ng’eno at Wilson Airport.
The story was reported in several newspapers more than a week ago.
Reacting for the first time to the allegation that generated heated arguments both on social and mainstream media, Murkomen on Thursday said that Ng’eno lied about the whole episode saying they never had any altercation.
"He is used to telling lies. He never beat me up. He told Citizen TV that we fought and later told journalists that he slapped me in self-defence which is not the case. He must have been dreaming that he fought with another Murkomen," he said.
The senate deputy minority leader added that he was a Sunday school teacher and knew better ways of resolving differences other than resorting to physical confrontation.
According to Ng’eno who was heading to Kericho to drum up support for KANU candidate Paul Sang, he spotted Murkomen who was also heading to Kericho to campaign for JAP candidate with wards of cash and when he confronted him about the money which he suspected was looted from the National Youth Service (NYS) kitty Murkomen turned violent and charged at him forcing him to slap the senator in self-defence.
"I asked him if the money he was carrying was the NYS money that went missing. Instead of denying or confirming the allegation, he started coming for me until I sought refuge. He could have landed on me," Ng’eno had earlier told Citizen TV.
Murkomen was speaking on a breakfast show in Radio Maisha.
