A man who was found selling unregistered veterinary drugs at Bahati, Nakuru County has been charged in a Nakuru court.
Joseph Odhiambo who was was allegedly caught selling twelve different types of drugs in May was on Monday arraigned before Senior Principal Magistrate Liz Gicheha to answer to the charges.
He, however, denied the charges and told the court that he was only a student who was on his field attachment at the premises at the time the offense was allegedly committed.
According to Dr Indraph Ragwa who is a chief inspector at the Kenya Veterinary Board, the accused was found selling the said drugs during a spot check exercise within Bahati district.
Ragwa told the court that the accused did not have any license from the board to conduct the business and was dispensing veterinary drugs which had not been registered by the pharmacy and poisons board.
"Our findings were that the business was being run illegally and unprofessionally by the accused since he didn't even have the permit to run the business," he testified.
He further added that the twelve drugs that were collected from the facility were never registered in their database and could, therefore, have been illegal.
Odhiambo, however, stated that the said facility never belonged to him as he was just a student on attachment.
"The premises is not mine because I was only on attachment there. You should look for the owner and charge him with this offense," he said.
He was released on a cash bond of Sh200,000 pending hearing on February 2, 2016.
