Prayer Beyond Boundaries Ministry founder Evangelist Lucy wa Ngunjiri has clarified that she was not competing with Cord leader Raila Odinga over occupying Uhuru Park on June 1 this year.
The evangelist says she was neither being used as a puppet by Raila's rivals to block the opposition leader from the Park during Madaraka Day celebrations.
Wa Ngunjiri, at the time of the controversy, had said that she hoped Raila would tell the world the truth on who booked the venue first “because what matters is the truth and not arm-twisting.”
The evangelist said on Tuesday that she has nothing personal against Raila but insisted, "We had genuinely secured the place for prayers and worship," she said on Sunday as quoted by the Star.
She added that she did not think the matter would make headlines.
The government moved this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations, presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta, to Nakuru’s Afraha Stadium in the spirit of devolution.
Prior to the move, Nairobi has been the venue for all the major national celebrations but with devolution, the events would be rotated around the counties.
The evangelist said she sought a refund of the money her church had paid to the county government for the Park. She said the refund process was almost complete.
Wa Ngunjiri has been accused of trying to grab a part of school land where her church is located in Ngara but she clarified that she has been leasing the space annually.
She said that her Prayer Beyond Boundaries Ministry has secured land in Ruiru which they are still paying for. She said the church will finally be relocated there once the purchase has been finalised.
The evangelist whose ministry gained popularity through Kameme FM will be launching a book My story of God's Faithfulness and Divine Grace on Sunday.
