Nairobi governor aspirant Bishop Margaret Wanjiru has pledged to clean up the streets of the capital city within her first week in office.

Speaking on Women In Leadership on Citizen TV last Friday, Wanjiru said that she will ensure that the streets are as clean as they should be within the first seven days should she sail through in the hotly contested race.

''I will clean up Nairobi within the first week of my term,'' said the former Starehe constituency lawmaker.

She also said that she has plans to ensure that the litter collected from the streets and homes of city residents is used to employ the jobless youth in the county especially those living around the city's dumpsite in Dandora.

''I will provide the youth at Dandora with machinery to enable them harvest as much recyclable products from the litter as possible,'' said the former opposition chief Raila Odinga's ally who has since crossed the floor to the Jubilee Party.

Wanjiru is however set to face an uphill task at the party primaries with the likes of former Gatanga lawmaker Peter Kenneth also eyeing the post on the party ticket.

Should she make it through, she is also likely to have a hard time going past the incumbent Governor Evans Kidero who will be riding on the ODM party ticket to defend his seat.
