President Uhuru Kenyatta has affirmed that he will not cling to power should he lose the forthcoming general elections.

In a statement on Thursday through State House spokesperson Manoah Esipisu, the Head of State maintained that he would concede defeat should he lose the August general elections, noting that he has great respect for the rule of law.

He further asserted his commitment to free, fair and credible elections, stating that the will of the people will not be subverted.

"Our democratic system envisages an incident-free, fair, transparent and credible electoral process where the will of Kenyans is exercised," he said.

President Kenyatta also dismissed NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga's assertions that he is planning to reject the outcome of the forthcoming polls.

In a press briefing on Tuesday, the former Prime Minister claimed that Uhuru was plotting to illegally cling to power should he lose the polls, remarks the Head of State has since refuted as baseless and laughable.
