Jama said that he took the decision after consulting widely with the electorate in the county.

"My resolution to shift to @JubileePartyK is as a result of consultations with my constituents," he said on his Twitter account.

The governor also revealed that he had informed Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka about his decision to decamp to Jubilee.

"As per the #Wiper meeting held on 27th July chaired by H.E. @skmusyoka I wish to state that I'll switch to @JubileePartyK in #2017Elections," he said.

The governor was elected on a Wiper ticket during the 2013 general elections.

In the last week, Garissa Town MP Aden Duale endorsed a rival of the governor and had allegedly threatened to support him if the governor did not decamp to Jubilee party.
