Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i may join politics soon after openly declaring his interest in deputizing DP William Ruto.
Ruto, who is still facing a tough challenge with Kenyatta, has maintained that he will be on presidential ballot in 2022.
At Nakuru on Wednesday, Matiangi, who spoke in his vernacular, attributed his success to President Uhuru Kenyatta adding that the numbers of Abagusii people would propel him to the high office.
“It is not easy to perform such functions with the blessing of the country’s top leadership. They have been so supportive,” he said.
“We now have numbers and can now demand to be behind him (Ruto) when that time comes. It is possible let’s just support them and asks for our right when time is due.”
Both Nyamira and Kisii counties have an approximated voting population of 800, 000 with an additional 200, 000 who are living in different parts of the country.
In his servant leadership, Matiang’i has served in the ministries of Education, ITC and at times serving as acting boss in Land and Interior Coordination.
