Former Kitutu Masaba MP Walter Nyambati has yet again insisted that he would rather die than miss out the Jubilee ticket for the Nyamira gubernatorial race in 2017.
Mr Nyambati is facing uncertainty in the party following the recent entry by leading entrepreneur, Charles Onsongo, Mochama who is believed to be having a backing from Deputy President William Ruto.
And on Monday in an exclusive phone interview with this writer, Nyambati dismissed his opponent as a ‘junior’ in politics and insisted that Mochama was in TNA rather than JAP that he has been popularising in the Gusii region.
“I would rather die than lose the Jubilee ticket in the 2017 polls. I introduced the party in Nyamira and Gusii at large so no one can claim to be part of it. It’s my idea and whoever claims contrary is an intruder,” he said.
“Mochama only launched TNA which may be disbanded soon and now wants to hijack the JAP party I have worked so hard to build in Nyamira. He is a junior in politics and should let JAP go because he is not going anywhere,” added Nyambati.
He denied any interference from State House, but admitted that he would go for JAP primaries in case the party officials decide otherwise.
“I am not saying that I won Jubilee but sometimes I really get disappointed when a newcomer comes on board and wants to dictate things. I don’t think the President or his deputy have endorsed anyone,” he said.
Mochama on his side called for sober campaigns and insisted that he would only accept defeat if he loses fairly in a nomination.
“JAP belongs to all of us and it’s not a property of someone. We will fight for the ticket and I will only accept if I lose fairly,” he said.
