Machakos county governor Alfred Mutua has reiterated that he will go for the country's top seat in 2022.
Speaking during a funeral at the weekend in Kitui, Mutua said he is serving as the Machakos county boss for the last term.
According to Mutua, his support for president Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election is a game plan to run for presidency in 2022.
Mutua who was re-elected on his Maendeleo Chap Chap party ticket said residents from Machakos, Kitui and Makueni counties should build bridges with other regions to vote for president Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election in October, 17 repeat of polls.
"My target is the presidency seat in 2022. I am confident that my good leadership qualities will enable me succeed Uhuru," he said.
Mutua was elected in 2013 as Machakos governor on a Wiper party ticket but later decamped and formed his own party Maendeleo Chap Chap.
During the August 8 polls, he defeated Wavinya Ndeti of Wiper who has filed a petition challenging his win.
