She said that Kenyans must be sensitized more and more to eradicate the killer disease, which is known to be among the most dangerous diseases in the world and Kenyans should take hid of the same.

Mutua, who took her campaign of Cancer Awareness to Masinga Model Health Centre in Masinga Sub-county on Thursday, said that the county government has put measures to help curb the cancer illness in the county.

“The county government is working towards kicking cancer out of the community and thus urges residents to have medical checkups regularly,” said the first lady.

She further said that cancer is ranked the third killer disease after infectious and cardiovascular diseases, and she pledges to be at the forefront in the fight to kick it out of Machakos and the nation if need be.

Mutua said that her campaign seeks to create awareness, screen for the disease, build capacity for health workers to deal with it, and also help patients get proper referrals.

She expressed her concern in Matuu area, where since the campaign, thousands of people especially women have been screened with 16 suspected cases reported, and another three in Kathiani Sub-county.

She encourages people to practice healthy lifestyles, exercise a lot, and have regular checks in hospitals as cancer is curable when detected early, thus those infected should not lose hope but fight hard to help save the future.
