Human rights activist Boniface Mwangi has said he will not apologise to Deputy President William Ruto over Twitter posts he made linking Ruto to land grabbing and murder.
The DP had given Mwangi a 7-day ultimatum to apologise or face legal action.
Through lawyer Gitobu Imanyara, Mwangi said he will not withdraw his statements against the DP.
“Our instructions are that for reasons set below our client will not retract, correct, withdraw or apologize for the said tweet. The tweet your client is complaining of simply expresses his fears. This is a matter of public interest and concern. I fear to be killed. The public has a right to know the sources of such threats and thus our client could not keep to himself gagged and await his death,” read in part a letter by lawyer Imanyara to Ruto's counsel Kioko Kilukumi.
"Is it not true that Jacob Juma was killed? Is it not true that Hon Cyrus Jirongo, a close friend at one time of both the late Jacob Juma and your client pointed fingers at your client in connection with Jacob Juma’s death?"
"Is it not true that Jacob Juma was a one time friend of William Ruto? Is it not true that when Jacob Juma fell out with William Ruto he became a whistle blower? Is it not true that prior to his death Jacob Juma publicly disclosed that William Ruto was planning to kill him?" read the letter.
