Education Cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i has said he will not bow to the pressure from the teachers' unions officials after introducing new rules in schools.
Last week, Knut chairman Wilson Sossion told off the CS over the rules saying they were the main causes of student unrest.
Sossion called on the CS to 'go slow on the decisions he is making'.
However, appearing before the parliamentary Education Committee on Tuesday, CS Matiang'i said some students have complained of lack of ‘oxygen’, in reference to exam leakage.
He further alleged that it might be that some head teachers are fueling violence so that they can get an excuse for poor results.
The CS said the new rules will not be changed and advised head teachers to hold prize-giving days, annual general meeting's and prayer days in first and second terms.
