Meru governor Peter Munya has exuded confidence in beating Senator Kiraitu Murungi during the forthcoming general elections.
Kiraitu, a seasoned politician seeks to unseat Munya on a Jubilee Party ticket.
Speaking on Sunday in Igembe Central, the outgoing Council of Governors chair cited his track record as governor for the past four years, vowing to do more if re-elected.
“My performance is one of the best among all county governments. I have transformed the health sector, overseen the growth of the cooperative movement, improved vocational and ECDE among others. I am asking for a chance to conclude the work I have been doing,” he noted.
Munya is set to seek re-election on a PNU Party ticket.
He tore further tore into Kiraitu's tenure as senator, observing that the lawmaker has nothing to show for in the past four years he has been at the Senate.
"Mr Murungi should prepare for his retirement because when he was asked to become Mr Ruto’s running mate, he refused passionately,” Munya said.
