Ruiru Chamber of Commerce and Industry chairman Simon Ng’ang’a has pledged to sponsor candidates who will score a mean grade of A (plain) in the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination (KCSE).
Speaking in Ruiru town on Wednesday, the chairman said he is ready to sponsor and cater for university expenses for candidates who will score A’s.
He, however, noted that the move is meant to encourage competition and hard work among students in the constituency.
“I want to promise that I am ready and willing to sponsor any candidate who will score a mean grade of A Plain in this constituency,” said Ng’ang’a.
He at the same time urged needy students in the area to apply for bursary in order get funds to continue with their studies, observing that very few students are applying for the funds.
“The county government has disbursed adequate funds to cater for the welfare of needy but bright students in the area, all needy and poor students who can not afford to pay for their fees should try and apply for the funds,” added Ng’ang’a.
Meanwhile, Ng’ang’a called on young people to refrain from activities that will hinder their development, saying many youths have opted to join drug peddling and crime.
He however noted that unemployment remains a big challenge among youths, but urged them to take advantage of the governments’ funds to better their lives.
Nga’ng’a lauded the initiatives taken by the national government towards reducing unemployment, saying there is need for the private sector to chip in and offer their help.
