Lamu county women rep Ruweida Obbo has offered to sponsor members of the Boni community to teachers training colleges.

Schools in some areas inhabited by the community have been closed for two years after teachers fled following frequent Al Shabaab attacks.

Obbo said her office will ensure form four leavers from the community are enrolled in the colleges.

"Sh1 million program will ensure the community produces teachers who will not flee due to insecurity after those from far areas fled in fear of attacks," she said.

She challenged parents not to allow their children to drop out of schools unnecessarily.

"Parents should be hard on their children to complete school since education is the key to life," said Obbo.

Obbo called on security agencies in the county to beef up security all times to curb any attacks from enemies.

"Al Shabaab has been targeting the county in their series of attacks. I urge security personnel to be more vigilant to deal with the terrorists and bring them down," she added.
