Former lands CS Charity Ngilu is contemplating about joining Cord coalition ahead of the 2017 general elections.
Responding to the coalition’s principles call for Ngilu to join them for a super coalition in readiness to oust the Jubilee administration from power in forthcoming polls, she said the country needs leaders who understand needs of its people.
“The most important thing in this country is how we are going to develop it, we have talked about poverty for a very long time. We cannot forever continue talking about poverty and suffering of citizens,” said Ngilu.
Ngilu spoke at the burial of CCU leader Wavinya Ndeti’s husband, late Prince Henry Dolamu Oduwole at Kinanie in Mavoko sub-county on Friday.
Cord’s co-principals Raila Odinga (ODM), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper) and Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya) attended the burial.
They said them attending the burial together was a sign that there is no discord in Cord as propagated by Jubilee leaders on media.
Raila said the Cord Super Coalition they intend to form will incorporate other leaders across the country willing to join it including Charity Ngilu and Wavinya Ndeti.
“We will work together with women, we will unite this country and do away with mediocre of ethnicity,” said Raila.
“We are united as Co-principals and the coalition is strong, Jubilee leaders are using media to propagate propaganda that there is discord in the opposition,” said Raila.
He said all the principals have numbers and the coalition is like River Nile.
“Cord iko imara na wengine wako njiani, hii ni kama Mto Nile. Itakua na nguvu upende usipende, itafika Misiri,” said Raila.
Raila said those daring to defect from Cord to leave for replacement.
Kalonzo said Cord will ensure 50/50 gender representation if it forms the next government.
“If Kenyans grant us the opportunity, Cord will make it 50/50 gender representation. Women are members of the coalition, we know where we want to go and we are headed there,” said Kalonzo.
Ngilu urged Cord to remember “common mwananchi” if it gets to power.
