Governor Jackson Mandago says they have already agreed on ensuring all livestock are vaccinated at the same time in a bid to avoid closure of livestock markets due to the diseases.

Speaking in Eldoret on Wednesday, Mandago said they are targeting to transform the North Rift region into a disease free zone.

“We have already agreed that we will be vaccinating our livestock at the same time so avoid a situation whereby dangerous livestock diseases are spread from one county to another leading to a quarantine that always affects farmers since they cannot be able to sell their livestock whenever they want to,” said Mandago.

The governor further pointed out that as from August this year, his county government will be providing free acaricide to all the cattle dips across the county in an initiative he said will help in fighting livestock diseases caused by ticks.

“Once this the dips are provided with the acaricide, the fee charged per cattle will have to be lowered from the current Sh30 to Sh10 and it will be mandatory for a farmer to take his/her cattle to the dip,” Mandago noted.
