Kiambu County Governor William Kabogo has revealed that if the status quo of switching off the main media streams remains, he will establish a county media outlet.
He said that Kenyans and the people of Kiambu have a right to information, and not to be infringed, which is unconstitutional.
This comes after the three media stations that sum up to total of more than 80 percent viewership were switched off by the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) for failing to go digital.
The county boss, who was speaking on Sunday when he was celebrating mass at St. Teresa Catholic Ruiru parish where Cardinal John Njue laid the foundation stone for the parish, said that the people of Kiambu and Kenyans are the ones suffering, and noted that plans are underway to establish media outlets in his county.
“We as Kenyans are suffering for the problems we are not aware, all we need is to watch our TVs and get information about the country, I will avail weekly publication if the status quo remains,” said Kabogo
He said that he will ensure that there is weekly county publication, which will be affordable to the residents so as to access information of the county development.
Kabogo expressed his concerns with Information Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and CA Director-General Francis Wangusi, and urged them to stop infringing the rights of Kenyans and allow the local stations to go on air.
The county boss has urged residents to be patient since he has plans on how to reach the people with news through publications that will as well earn revenue to the county of Kiambu.
