Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter has dismissed claims that he conducted illegal campaigns ahead of the August 8 general elections.

Keter who testified at the Eldoret High Court on Wednesday in an election petition challenging his win insisted that he abided by the elections code of conduct all through the campaign period. He further dismissed allegations that he bribed and intimidated voters.

"All these allegations are stories created by my opponents to discredit my resounding win in the elections," Keter told the court when being cross-examined by his lawyer Bernard Lang'at.

"In my opinion, the election process was free and fair and I was validly declared the winner," he added.

The petitioner in the case Bernard Kitur claims Keter conducted campaigns on August 6th and 7th way past the official campaign period which had ended on August 5th.

Kitur who vied as an independent candidate and finished second in the race also accuse the Jubilee MP of voter bribery. He wants the court to nullify the election results and order for a fresh election.

IEBC declared Keter of Jubilee winner of the Parliamentary election after garnering 28,923 votes against the petitioner's 13,872 votes.
