City assembly speaker Beatrice Elachi has vowed to reign in rowdy Members of the County Assembly (MCAs).

The former Senate chief whip said she will not allow unruly members to disrupt the House operations and prevent the assembly from conducting its mandate.

"Some of the members just need to have their egos to be massaged and I will not be there for that," Elachi said.

In the first assembly, members on numerous occasions disrupted the House accusing former governor Evans Kidero's administration of failing to implement bills and approving budgets.

Barely a month passed by without the eruption of chaos, forcing some MCAs to boycott consequent sittings.

Elachi further warned the ward representatives against snubbing sittings, inviting Nairobians to file petitions against MCAs who miss eight sessions as stipulated by the standing orders.

"The public will deal with members snubbing the plenary. If you have been allocated the ward development fund then there is no reason for you not to attend the plenary sessions," she said.

The speaker urged the MCAs to exercise tolerance and put their political differences aside in order to dispense their duties to serve the electorate.
