Members of Parliament now wants President Uhuru Kenyatta to sack Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Willy Bett over the skyrocketing prices of commodities in the country.

National Assembly Committee on Agriculture gave the Head of State until Tuesday to sack the CS or ask him to step aside voluntarily.

Led by Vice Chairman Kareke Mbiuki, the legislators accuse Bett of failing to manage the current crisis and mismanaging the Agriculture docket, claim the CS has refuted and termed as misleading.

Mbiuki on Friday further accused Bett of lying to the nation when he appeared before them in February.

“The CS misled the house and the entire nation that we had sufficient food stocks. If indeed there were enough reserves, the CS should account for the two million bags, if not, he should also take responsibility for lying,” he stated.

The CS denied and said he informed the committee that available bags of maize could have only lasted for this month.

“With the right opportunity, I will confirm what they are saying is not true. They will call me to explain,” he said.

Bett said he will not step down, saying he has the mandate to ensure the prices of maize, sugar and milk drastically comes down.

“I still have a lot to do and my work will not cut out. The calls (to resign) will not cut my desire to lower down the prices of Unga,” he said on Sunday.
