Nakuru County Government has moved to allay workers' fears over sack claims.
Some sections of the media recently reported that Governor Lee Kinyanjui was planning to down size the workforce over a ballooning wage bill.
But the county, through Public Service Management Executive Lawrence Mwangangi, dismissed the claims and assured workers of their job security.
"I have gone round and seen that there is a lot of fear. I don't know what their fear is, but I would like to assure them that respect the contract that they have with the county, hence they cannot be arbitrarily sacked," he said, as quoted by Sunday Standard.
A local daily a week ago reported that Governor Kinyanjui has commissioned a staff and skills audit in readiness to send home workers who were either irregularly recruited or involved in corruption.
Mwangangi, however, defended the move saying all issues of human resources will be handled according to the law and regulations.
"There are no plans to send workers home. We will work with all of them and as such they should execute their duties without any fear of threats or ill-treatment whatsoever," the Executive said speaking in his office.
Kinyanjui inherited about 5,000 workers and an annual bill expenditure totaling Sh5.17 billion.
Nakuru which has annual budget of Sh13.7 billion is the third largest spender among the 47 counties in paying workers.
