Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has said he is not going to step aside over corruption allegations against him.
Speaking to journalists in Kisumu on Tuesday where he had attended the Devolution Conference, Mutua said that he is not responsible for mistakes of errant officials under him.
"When there is corruption within the national government, do you tell the president to step aside because he is the head of the national government? So whatever my people do or do not do I am not responsible unless am personally involved,” said Mutua.
Mutua said that his work is to ensure that those involved in corruption in his government are arrested and not him stepping aside.
"We need to be realistic on this matter because if we were to be strict, then nobody will be in power. Let those found responsible to step aside,” he added.
The governor said that he has cleared his name at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and is willing to appear before the commission again to clear any allegations against him.
