Opposition leader and presidential hopeful Raila Odinga has said he won't vie for presideny if the IEBC is not overhauled.
Speaking in London during an interview with Al Jazeera’s Head to Head moderated by Mehdi Hasan, Raila said he will not participate in elections next year if the country's electoral commission is not reformed.
He said that he was worried about the potential for violence to break out during the poll, adding that there would be no reason for us them to participate if IEBC was not overhauled.
In the interview to be aired on May 6, Raila said, "We will not go into the gallows. If the Electoral Commission is not properly reformed there would definitely be no reason for us to participate in the coming elections."
Just last week, police had to lobe tear gas at Raila and other Cord members when they marched to IEBC’s offices. This was in a protest calling for the commission to be dissolved.
In the interview, Raila spoke about the collapse of the ICC cases where he said there was "intolerable amount of interference" from the government while the African Union has a "hypocritical relationship" with the court.
In the interview, Raila said he was offered bribes when he was in government but ‘resisted taking them’. He also has pledged to jail corrupt officials if elected president. The interview will also explore Raila’s record of fighting corruption while he was in office.
Despite his call for the government to withdraw troops from Somalia, Raila will also speak about al-Shabab.
He is also to speak on the state of Kenya's "tribal" democracy, political violence, impunity and about whether he did enough to stop the 2007/08 bloodshed and justice for the victims.
In the interview, there is a panel of experts who will discuss whether Kenya has overcome ethnic politics.
