Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has said he will snub summons by a national assembly security committee over claims he has sponsored a private militia and influenced police in his county to intimidate and harass MPs.

He termed the allegations a 'non-issue' and said the summons are political gimmicks and a waste of time.

"What the committee is doing is abusing the privileges of parliament. They are just wasting public funds through unnecessary sittings. Even if I had the militia, do they think I would go and admit I had one," he said.

Speaking in Kiambu town when he launched four firefighting engines donated by the World Bank, Kabogo said he will not avail himself before the committee chaired by Tiaty MP Asman Kamama since he did not have time to waste.

“Kabogo is not one of those people you think you can intimidate easily; you need a lot effort and energy. I do not have time to waste. In fact, I am yet to receive any official invitation," said Kabogo.

The committee resolved that the Kiambu governor should appear before it to respond to the allegations made by Kiambu residents.

The allegations were sent to the National Assembly through a petition tabled by Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa.
