Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi says he does not regret disrupting President Uhuru Kenyatta’s State of the Nation address on March 31, 2016.
Wandayi says he would disrupt Uhuru’s speech “again and again”, four months after he was thrown out of Parliament.
“I have no regrets whatsoever. Neither do I have any apology. I would do it again and again if circumstances do not change,” the ODM MP said.
Wandayi was forcibly ejected from Parliament after he and other opposition MPs disrupted Uhuru’s State of the Nation address on March 31.
The lawmakers blew whistles to protest what they said was a corrupt and incompetent Jubilee administration.
Other MPs kicked out alongside the unapologetic legislator were Fred Outa (Nyando), Millie Odhiambo (Mbita), John Mbadi (Suba), TJ Kajwang’ (Ruaraka), Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay Women Rep) and Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang’.
National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi invoked Standing Orders, kicking the ODM MP out of the Chambers for a record 11 months.
Wandayi was also barred from hefty allowances and privileges MPs enjoy.
He successfully challenged Muturi’s order in court. But Parliament rejected the order.
Wandayi was later reinstated by the Powers and Privileges Committee, even after he declined to appear before it.
