The rift between Deputy President William Ruto and Bomet Governor was on display when Isaac Rutto condemned a series of prayer meetings coordinated by Jubilee allied MPs.
Speaking on Saturday at Chepilat Township when he paid a courtesy call to victims of a fatal road accident in the region in which 7 people died, Rutto told the DP to ignore the prayers terming them as ridicule to God.
The Bomet County boss said instead, the deputy president should focus on winning the case at the International Criminal Court (ICC) without involving the public.
The outspoken governor says the DP should stop the 'scathing attacks' against the the court.
“I don’t think moving from one place to the other in the name of praying helps. That is a total ridicule to God and it may not be good for him (William Ruto). He should avoid politicising the case and concentrate on clearing his name without necessarily mentioning ICC every time in public rallies,” he said.
Rutto further accused the DP of denying Rift Valley residents democracy by waging wars on people perceived to be opposing his leadership.
“The DP should know that we are not against him as a person. All we want is democratic space to share our opinions without being coerced,” he added.
He called for tolerance among Jubilee MPs and urged them to desist from organising prayer meetings in the name of supporting DP on his ICC case.
“We know the case is of big concern but it’s not proper for some MPs to look for mileage ahead of 2017 elections by purporting to pray for him,” he said.
He pledged to donate Sh200,000 for the victims of the road carnage and promised to take care of burial expenses.
