Danston Omari told KBC English Service that the Hague-based court had done a lot to rein in reckless politicians ahead of the 2013 polls, and should Kenya opt out of it, then the violence of greater magnitude could be witnessed in subsequent elections.

"ICC helped ensure peaceful elections in 2013. If the government makes good its plan to exit, then we should brace for violence greater than the 2007-08 post-election violence," he said.

He further added that the move would embolden uncultured politicians who would take advantage and incite violence among Kenyans.

President Uhuru Kenyatta said Monday that the country was reconsidering its membership at the international court.

The President, his deputy William Ruto, former Commissioner of police Hussein Ali, former head of civil service Francis Muthaura, former Tinderet MP Henry Kosgey, and radio journalist Joshua Sang are the six Kenyans whose cases collapsed at the court.
