The International Criminal Court has begun a fresh followup on the alleged tampering of witness evidence in the collapsed cases aginst President Uhuru Kenyatta, William Ruto and others linked to the 2007/7 post election violence.
According to the Star, a team comprising eight ICC sleuths have already arrived in the country with the aim of unearthing suspicious areas in the collapsed cases.
They are also monitoring top political leaders, including those that were not indicted in the collapsed cases.
The Star also reports that the team largely drawn from Tanzania and Rwanda, and who speak fluent English and Kiswahili, has been in the country since November.
Ex-defence lawyers in the court cases for crimes against humanity have confirmed the ICC team's presence in the country.
“They are in the country and are investigating claims of witness tampering. I have met some of them,” said one of the lawyers as quoted by the Star.
When she withdrew the case against Ruto, prosecutor Fatou Bensouda said that the judges had not blocked her office from making a follow-up on the cases against Ruto and journalist Joshua arap Sang “with the same charges in future, or in a different form in light of new evidence”.
