The rising insecurity cases in Kikuyu are a major concern to the government according to area MP Kimani Ichung'wa.
The insecurity menace has seen the Kikuyu Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD), Officer Commanding Police Station (OCS) and Divisional Criminal Investigation Officer (DCIO) replaced with great urgency.
Addressing the congregation at Church of the Torch Kimuri on Sunday 29 May, Ichung’wa said that insecurity issue has been addressed by reshuffling the top police officer in Kikuyu constituency.
“The reshuffle has been done after an Administration Police (AP) officer based in Thogoto was arrested among other robbers who attempted to rob a night club at Kinoo area,” he said.
According to the legislator, the AP together with four others had stolen a week before in Gikambura before they were arrested at Kinoo area. This happens one week after another police officer was slain among four robbers in Nairobi.
"It is really sad to have a police officer amongst robbers. There is something wrong somewhere and it should be addressed immediately," he said.
The lawmaker said that insecurity is a disturbing issue in the areas including Thogoto, Ma-ya-ihii and Gikambura and the people in charge should not neglect their duties. He also said that many robbers are taking the advantage of alliance to Thogoto road for their heinous agendas and he asked the police officers to deal with the insecurity in the area.
“The officers who have been put in the charge of the security in Kikuyu should do their work responsibly,” he concluded.
He at the same time praised youths in the constituency for being active in various youth groups in the area. He said that youths should be empowered to do more.
Among the recognised groups was Thogoto Arts Group for their participation in encouraging the other youths to refrain from drug abuse and engage into income generating activities.
