Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa has today said that CORD leaders are inciting violence ahead of the 2017 polls.
This is after CORD leaders and their supporters headed to the IEBC offices yesterday to forcefully evict the officials starting with the chairman because they didn’t have faith in the commission.
Ichung’wa addressing youth groups today at Give hope hall in Kikuyu, said that the strategy of the opposition was to cause violence as they had already started sensing defeat since the Jubilee government has gained popularity in the country.
He said that the leaders who should be a good example to the people instead mislead them to attempt to break into IEBC offices. He said as leaders they should have opted for go to court and challenge their matter legally other than breaking the law and inciting Kenyans to demonstrate and forcefully demanding to break into the offices.
‘’We have already started seeing what the opposition wants for this country and that is to break the unity and peace that the Jubilee administration has created countrywide. We are not going to go back to what we experience in 2007,2008 and if that is their strategy they must realize Kenyans are now beyond that and cannot engage in war,’’ said Ichung’wa.
He also said that IEBC being an independent commission was the only body that could conduct the elections free and fair.He said that CORD are a team of people who always have a belief that they must win and if not they come up with issues that they were rigged.
‘’I want to call on Kenyans especially the youths not to be used by politicians to cause violence and cause division among Kenyans as we head into the election year,’’ said Ichung’wa.
