Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wa has called on Kikuyu residents to engage recovering alcoholics in income generating activities to prevent them from relapsing.

Ichung'wa said that many alcoholics who underwent transformation have gone back into drinking due to idleness that results to unemployment in the society.

Speaking in Kinoo when he joined residents in destroying alcohol found hidden in a residential apartment on Tuesday, Ichung'wa said many recovering alcoholics will go back to drinking dens since the members of the public and neighbours do not help them in their hustle to become responsible citizens.

He said he had engaged many reformed addicts in income generating activities citing the ongoing Kinoo Primary School construction funded by the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) where majority of the workers are the recovered alcoholics.

The law maker said he had an insightful engagement with an elderly painter who recounted how much he had lost due to consumption of illicit brew and urged youth not to learn by personal experience but by the examples of others.

The MP expressed his concerns with cases of unemployment in the county, and urged the county government to employ youths and fulfill the promises they made during their campaigns.

“Youths are the future leaders and if they resort to drinking, Kenya will have no future in achieving its goals. Residents should also embrace the Nyumba Kumi initiative to prevent the return of illicit brew,” said Ichung'wa.

He however lauded Kinoo residents for providing information about existence of illicit brew dens.
