A section of Members of Nairobi City County Assembly has come out to defend Senator Johnson Sakaja after he was attacked by two Kiambu legislators for bailing out Embakasi East MP Babu Owino from Parklands Police Station on Sunday.
The MPs Moses Kuria (Gatundu South) and Kimani Ichung’wa (Kikuyu) on Tuesday criticised Sakaja's decision claiming he was an opposition mole for securing the release of Babu, who is a NASA legislator.
The MCAs, drawn from Jubilee and NASA, hailed the Senator's move and told Kuria and Ichung’wa to keep off city politics.
"Those condemning Sakaja should know he was elected by Nairobi residents who are from all the 42 tribes in Kenya. Sakaja was helping a Nairobi resident so let them give him a break," said Utalii Ward Representative Wilson Ocholla.
Nominated MCA June Ndegwa demanded respect for Nairobi elected leaders and warned the MPs against meddling with the city affairs.
"Nairobi is a metropolitan county which has no room for tribalism. That is why we have a governor, woman representative, and Senator from different tribes," she said.
South C MCA Osman Khalif, who was elected on ODM ticket, faulted Kuria and Ichung’wa saying they showed disrespect to their former colleague in the 11th Parliament.
"As leaders, we need to respect those who were elected by the people. We don’t want tribalism in Nairobi. That is why we in NASA respect our governor and senator," Khalif said.
Babu was arrested on Friday, January 19 following accusations of assaulting a parking attendant at an entertainment joint in Westlands, Nairobi on January 11.
