The MPs want more powers given to the agency so that it can push for the removal of rogue police from the force.

Ichung’wa and Kuria who spoke in Nthaara Village, Tharaka Nithi County during the burial of bodaboda operator Josphat Mwenda who was killed alongside lawyer Willie Kimani and Joseph Muiru in unclear circumstances said that IPOA needs to be strengthened to effectively ensure the police force is clean.

“We want the national government to give more powers to IPOA so that it can help us get rid of rogue police from the service,” said Ichung’wa.

The Kikuyu MP said that Kenyans are not safe if rogue police officers will still remain in service.

Ichung’wa also called on human rights groups to stand together and condemn acts of extrajudicial killings in the country.

“We don’t want to hear more extrajudicial killings, these should be the last ones,” said Moses Kuria.

Kuria said that no human being has the authority or right to terminate the lives of others.

“We have talked to Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery and Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet and asked the m to guard human life,” he said.

Speaking during the burial, Senate majority leader Kithiki Kithure urged Boinnet to put his house in order by getting rid of rogue officers. The killing of lawyer Willie Kimani, his client Mwenda and driver Joseph Muiruri was condemned by activists and leaders across the globe.

Their killings were linked to extrajudicial killings allegedly being committed by police.

Investigations into the killings is ongoing with the Kenyan detectives engaging the services of FBI.

Kimani and driver Muiruri were buried on Saturday in Kiambu and Nyandarua counties respectively.
