Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa has hit out at the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party over its claims that Jubilee government is plotting to rig the 2017 general elections.
The MP says that claims by the Orange party are malicious and meant to divert Jubilee government’s attention on development.
Speaking on Radio Maisha on Monday, the Kikuyu MP said that ODM led by Raila Odinga has already sensed defeat and is coming up with excuses to avoid participating in the 2017 general elections
“The opposition led by Raila has sensed defeat and wants to divert government attention with malicious allegations,” he said.
The Kikuyu lawmaker said that opposition is known for such comments especially during the electioneering period.
“What they want is for the next elections to be postponed because they are afraid,” he claimed.
Ichung’wa said that Jubilee government is focused o fair and transparent 2017 elections.
He said it is absurd for ODM to claim rigging urging the Raila led party to present proof of their claims.
Last week, ODM chairman John Mbadi claimed that the government is working with the IEBC secretariat to rig the 2017 polls.
Mbadi alleged that Jubilee government has started voter registration in its strongholds at the expense of other areas.
Mbadi also opposed the IEBC proposed audit of the voters register.
The ODM chairman said that it will be proper for IEBC to conduct voter register audit when new commissioners are in office.
He said that auditing of the voters register must be supervised by the new commissioners.
Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery has also dismissed ODM’s claims.
Speaking in Kajiado on Saturday, Nkaissery asked the Orange party to provide evidence of their allegations and stop propaganda.
