This is following the increased reported cases of disabled children dropping out of school as a result of lack of school fees for the special schools according to report by Kikuyu Hope Organisation last week.

According to the report released last week on children drop outs, most children who had dropped out in the past two years had increased by 15% compared to 2010 where it was at 5%. The main reason of the children dropping out was due to lack of finances to facilitate them in special schools.

Addressing locals today at PCEA Kikuyu where he launched the programme to fund disabled children, Ichung’wa said that disabled children just like other children deserve to have an education because their disability is not any form of inability.

He added that special schools are very expensive for the disabled children who cannot afford them.

‘’We have now come up with a special bursary specifically for the disabled children in Kikuyu who can’t afford to pay for the special schools. I want to urge parents and relatives of these children to apply for the bursary from now so for the third term,’’ said Ichung’wa.

He also said they have a plan in place to build a CDF school for the disabled children that will be affordable to everyone. He said that this will reduce the number of disabled children dropping out of school.

“I also urge those parents whose children had dropped out as a result of finances to apply for this bursary so that their children can resume school,” said Ichung’wa.

He said that disabled children have the ability to become who they aspire to be and by that they need an education to get to that point.
