Ichungwa said that opposition leaders had disobeyed the Constitution by holding the anti-IEBC protests.

“We will not hold talks with opposition leaders unless they respect the constitution,” he said during a tour of Kikuyu Town on Wednesday.

Ichungwa said the Constitution provides clear outlines on how the IEBC can be disbanded.

The lawmaker claimed that the opposition was not keen on dialogue and that they want to cause political anxiety in the country.

“The chaotic protest by Cord leaders and supporters is aimed at frightening Kenyans,” said Ichungwa.

On Wednesday, a section of religious leaders led by the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) met with Jubilee leaders in a bid to address the IEBC stalemate.

The religious leaders also met the IEBC team at Anniversary Towers and held talks on issues touching on the electoral body.

On Tuesday, the NCCK and Catholic Church met with Cord leaders and appealed to opposition to stop calling for ‘mass action’ and allow for dialogue.
