Kikuyu lawmaker Kimani Ichung'wa has lashed out at opposition leader Raila Odinga accusing him of supporting hate mongers.
The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) leader is being rebuked for siding with Orange Democratic movement (ODM) Nairobi County branch chairman George Aladwa over inflammatory remarks he allegedly made at a public rally.
Ichung'wa claims that Odinga’s alleged support of Aladwa’s statement is a clear indication of the coalition alleged plot to cause fear among Kenyans ahead of the 2017 general election.
He said that the statements made by Aladwa were inflammatory and could trigger animosity among Kenyans.
Speaking to the press at Thika stadium on Sunday, Ichung’wa said, “It is unfortunate that Cord leader Raila Odinga and his colleagues can condone hate speech. Leaders who make hate remarks should be dealt with,” he said.
During the Mashujaa day celebrations last week in Kibera, Aladwa was quoted saying that there would be war if Raila Odinga was not pronounced the winner in event he wins the 2017 election.
The Kikuyu MP further dismissed claims by Cord that the government was fighting hate mongers selectively.
Ichung’wa warned that hate speech perpetuated by leaders across the political divide could plug the country into disunity of not checked.
The Kikuyu MP urged the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to move hastily and track down politicians and individuals perpetuating hate speech.
