Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wa has challenged Kiambu County government to establish a scholarship kitty for bright and needy students.

Speaking when he opened the new administration block at the Kandutura Primary School in Kikuyu on Wednesday, Ichung'wa said that there are many bright but needy students who need to be sponsored.

He said that the county government has a responsibility to ensure that such student’s education dreams are not shuttered.

“We have so many needy students who do well in national examinations but fail to continue with education for lacking school fees and it will be proper if the county and national government establish more scholarship opportunities for such bright minds,” he said.

Ichungwa also urged both the national and county government to increase funding to the bursary kitties so that many bright but needy students can benefit.

The Kikuyu legislator indicated that the constitution provides for equal access to education for every child. Ichung'wa said that through his Education Foundation he has been able to fund hundreds of needy students.

He urged needy students to apply for bursaries and scholarships when they are announced to continue with their education.
