Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung'wa has called for union within the opposition.
In an interview on Radio Jambo Saturday, the ruling Jubilee Party ally urged opposition's National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders to unite their 4 parties ahead of the approaching 2022 polls.
He stressed on the need for the former Premier Raila Odinga-led Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Moses Wetangula's Ford-Kenya, Musalia Mudavadi's Amani National Congress (ANC) and Kalonzo Musyoka's Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) to merge into one party or risk losing in the approaching 2022 presidential race.
''These parties have no option but to unite and form one major team that will face off with Jubilee's Deputy President William Ruto in the 2022 presidential contest. They are currently tribal blocs and will surely lose,'' he said.
The comments were echoed by former Makadara MP Benson Mutura who termed the 4 as personal properties of their party bosses.
''These are weak political fronts that are currently aimed at benefiting individuals and not the nation. The party leaders have to rectify this by giving Kenyans a single ideological team that will contest with Jubilee in a battle of policies,'' he said.
This, however, comes amid a division within NASA, with ANC and Ford Kenya laying out plans to merge. Wiper and ODM, on the other hand, have remained non committal on the alliance affairs.
