[Photo/citizentv.co.ke]International Commission of Jurists-Kenya (ICJ) has condemned the ban on Nasa anti-IEBC protests in CBDs by the Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i.Matiang'i announced the ban in the CBDs of Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa on Thursday during a press conference in Nairobi.ICJ has asked supporters of Nasa to ignore the ban since it is illegal and proceed with their demos.ICJ-Kenya Executive Director Samuel Mohochi called on police to provide security to the protesters because it is an “inalienable right.”ICJ-Kenya urges and demands that all law abiding citizens of Kenya disregard such unlawful and illegal directions and enjoy their fundamental rights to the fullest, including turning out in large numbers to take part in the Nasa demonstrations in a peaceful and lawful manner,” he said.Amnesty International’s Deputy Regional Director for East Africa, the Horn and the Great Lakes, Michelle Kagari also disagreed with Matiang'i."This kind of outright ban is only justifiable in the most extreme circumstances where the police would otherwise be unable to ensure public order and safety," Kagari noted.
